US retail giant Walmart has apologised after a listing for “fat girl costumes” was uploaded to their website.

The chain has since changed the section name to “Women’s Plus-Size Halloween Costumes".

While the retailer initially responded with what appeared to be a generic message, they have since issued an apology.

“This never should have been on our site. It is unacceptable, and we apologize,” a spokesperson for the company said. “We are working to remove it as soon as possible and ensure this never happens again.”

The mistake has prompted a range of responses on Twitter – some in disgust and others wondering if we’re just a little bit too sensitive.
