Duff Beer Banned In Australia
Springfield’s Favourite Drink Pulled From Our Shelves
It’s a sad day for Australian Duff Beer lovers - the popular drink is being pulled from our shelves.
Springfield’s favourite beverage made it’s way to our shores back in May but it’s now been found to be in breach of the Alcohol Beverages Advertising Code.
Basically they’re worried that it’s association with The Simpsons will make it attractive to young kids.
A board representing the code released the following statement:
"The association of The Simpsons with the product name and packaging is so strongly entrenched in Australian popular culture that the name and packaging will draw the attention of under 18 year olds. Measures to market the product without references to The Simpsons characters or images cannot be effective to overcome the strong and evident appeal of the product material to underage persons."
"Through its creation and subsequent promotion in The Simpsons, there is no doubt that Duff Beer is going to be attractive to children and young people."
Cue one of the most infamous Simpsons quotes ever: “Oh, won't somebody PLEASE think of the children?!”
While production has stopped, retailers are allowed to sell their remaining shelf stock so if you’re quick, you may still be able get your hands on some Duff before it completely disappears.
The world we live in is a wonderfully interesting and diverse place… and so too are our drinking customs.
The Simpsons is set to come to an end sometime in the next few years, with both creator Matt Groening and Executive Producer Al Jean hinting that the end is near.
Who Will Get The Chop in Season 26?
The great thing about The Simpsons is that no matter how many times you watch it, there are always hilarious subtle jokes that you might not have ever noticed.
