Didn’t Get The Promotion? Here’s Four Steps To Bounce Back
If things didn't go your way, we're here to help!
Ok, let’s get all the anger out before we start the restoring process…
WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE?! I’VE BEEN SLOGGING MY GUTS OUT AND KISSING SOME SERIOUS ASS FOR OVER TWO YEARS AND FOR WHAT?! THIS NEW CHICK WILL BE IN THAT ROLE FOR THE NEXT 10 YEARS AND WHAT AM I MEANT TO DO... ETC. ETC.
We feeling good now?
AFTER the kicking and screaming behind closed doors, try this 4-step guide that will help get you back on track… even if you feel like all your career wheels have fallen off.
(If this acrostic poem isn’t enough to prove it, I dunno what will)
Don’t overreact. There’s nothing more unappealing and less hireable then someone who can’t take the bad as well as the good. Trust me on this one; people will always remember how you handled not getting the promotion, rather than how you did.
Ask why you didn’t make the cut. Not only will it benefit your sanity (kind of like being broken up with and not knowing why), but it will also show the big bosses that you are willing to take it on the chin and work hard to get there next time.
Remember the clichés: Life will throw you lemons for a reason. As much as you don’t want to hear these daggy sayings - everything happens for a reason. It’s not your time or perhaps it wasn’t even the right job.
To contradict everything that we’ve just said, you must know when it’s time to leave. Don’t remain stuck somewhere that either doesn’t see your potential or isn’t right for you. When it’s time to move on, don't allow yourself to get bitter and move on, sister!
