It’s the key to a beautifully wrapped present… but have you ever wondered why ribbons curl if you run them along a knife blade or the edge of scissors?

Well, now we have the answer!

According to ScientificAmerican.com, the ribbon curls because its outer layer stretches and, therefore, expands, more than the inner layer that is pressed against the rod or scissors.

Apparently the secret is to be firm but slow. This allows the ribbon to have more time to adjust to the curls.

You’re welcome… and happy present-wrapping!
