Now And Then was one of the defining movies of 1995 – but whatever happened to the cast?
The coming-of-age drama featured both young and grown up versions of four best friends, and they made us all want to go riding around on our bikes and sneak into cemeteries for séances.
Christina Ricci – Young Roberta
Christina was one of the top child and teen stars of the 90s. She played tomboy Roberta who tapes down her chest and eventually kisses Scott (Devon Sawa). Christina successfully transitioned into an adult actress, with roles in Monster, Pan Am and most recently The Lizzie Borden Chronicles. We'll see her next in Mothers Day.
Gaby Hoffman – Young Samantha
Another popular 90s child star, Gaby played the slightly paranormal obsessed Samantha, who narrates the film. As an adult Gaby transitioned into a career in the theatre, but you might recognise her from her recent roles in Girls and Transparent!
Ashleigh Aston Moore – Young Chrissy
Ashleigh began acting at the age of four, and she played the naïve but extremely responsible character of Chrissy. Sadly Ashleigh passed away in 2007 at the age of 26.
Thora Birch – Young Teeny
Successful child star Thora played the glamorous Teeny, who couldn’t wait to grow up. Thora began the transition to more adult roles with movies like American Beauty, Dungeons & Dragons and Ghost World before entering a quieter stage of her career. She was fired from an off-Broadway production of Dracula in 2010 after her father threatened one of the show’s cast members, but is now set to appear in the new show Colony.
Rosie O’Donnell – Older Roberta
Adult Roberta is a successful doctor, and even delivers Chrissy’s baby. At the peak of her career when this movie was filmed, Rosie has never been far from the spotlight. She has hosted her own talk shows, has had two separate stints on The View, and recently appeared in The Fosters. Rosie also made headlines in 2015 after her daughter Chelsea ran away from home.
Demi Moore – Older Samantha
Demi was the perfect choice for grown up Samantha, who is a science fiction writer with commitment issues. Demi was at one stage the highest paid actress in Hollywood, and continued acting with roles in Striptease, GI Jane and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. Recently she’s become better known for her marriage and divorce from Ashton Kutcher, and for being the mother to Rumer, Scout and Tallulah. She’s pictured below twinning with Rumer – Demi’s on the right.
Rita Wilson – Older Chrissy
Adult Chrissy is pregnant, living in her mother’s old house and married to nerdy Morton Williams. Rita has continued acting, with roles in The Good Wife and Girls in recent years. She has been married to Tom Hanks since 1988 and is Hollywood royalty (check her out with T Swift below). She also sings, and released her debut album in 2012. In 2015 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.
Melanie Griffith – Grown Up Teeny
Teeny became a successful actress with multiple marriages behind her, and Melanie played her to perfection. Melanie was married to Antonio Banderas from 1996 to 2014, and has appeared in TV shows like Raising Hope and Hawaii Five-O. The daughter of actress Tippi Hedren, Melanie has continued her Hollywood dynasty with her own daughter Dakota Johnson (pictured below) starring in 50 Shade Of Grey.
Devon Sawa – Scott
The ultimate 90s heartthrob, Devon Sawa played town hottie Scott. Despite reports that he had dropped off the radar, Devon has never been far from our screens. He was in the TV series Nikita, has filmed plenty of movie roles and is a constant fixture on social media. He welcomed his son Hudson with wife Dawni in 2014.
