Adele's '25' would have sold 8 million in the US first week if released in 2000

It’s Adele’s world – and we’re just living in it.

This morning we learned that Adele’s new album ‘25’ has sold over 3 million copies in the US and counting – shattering the previous first week sales record held by N*SYNC (2.4 million albums for ‘No Strings Attached’).

Now, Billboard has published an article that looks at album sales adjusted for inflation – and they claim that if ‘25’ was released in 2000 (an era when overall album sales were at an historic high), it would have sold just under 8 million in it’s first week.

They also claim that Taylor Swift’s albums ‘Red’ and ‘1989’ wouold have sold over 3 million each in their first week, while Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ would have nabbed 2.8 million.
