5 Seconds Of Summer Get Naked For Rolling Stone But Their Fans Aren’t Happy
What's the problem here?
Australia’s very own superstar band 5 Seconds Of Summer have stripped off for the cover of Rolling Stone magazine – but why are their fans upset?
Covered in nothing but graffiti slogans, Calum Hood, Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin and Michael Clifford posed naked for the famous music mag’s latest issue.
The cover was accompanied by an interview where the guys left almost no topics untouched. They described their wild Hollywood lifestyle, including attending parties thrown by Nick Jonas and Justin Bieber, with Michael noting that Justin “had his own album on loop for, like, two or three hours”.
However, comments the boys made about hooking up with various girls while on tour have drawn criticism on social media for objectifying women.
Luke told Rolling Stone, “When you put four young dudes on a tour bus, playing theaters, then arenas, you’re going to have sex with a lot of girls, I guess. We had a good time.” And on the topic of sleeping with multiple women in one night he said, “I feel like I shouldn’t say. You could say the possibility of that is high.”
The backlash to these comments was immediate, with users on Twitter quickly condemning the band for the statements.
However not everyone feels this way, and plenty of fans were showing their support on social media – including claiming the article was fake.
While the band members haven’t directly commented on this controversy, Michael did tweet this:
Hopefully they'll be able to clear up this controversy and get back to what they're the best at: creating amazing music.
