They have both successfully moved on from their 2011 split – but a new documentary about Russell Brand may dredge up some bad blood with ex wife Katy Perry.
Their 14-month marriage came to an abrupt end when Brand texted Perry saying he wanted a divorce – with the spilt playing out in cinemas as a part of Perry’s documentary ‘Katy Perry: Part of Me’.
In the film Katy said, "If you can believe in something great, I feel like you can achieve something great. I have that same belief system with everything, from career to my life to my personal life, everything. And I will do everything it takes to not fail. And I did everything it took, but it still failed."
Now three years after her film, the Brand-Perry relationship is back onscreen in Russell’s new doco ‘BRAND: A Second Coming’.
The flick had its world premiere at the South by Southwest Film Festival on Friday night.
The film includes an interview Brand conducted with Perry while they were married, where the singer expresses some concerns about their relationship (she tells a story about how the Buddha left his wife to search for enlightenment).
But Perry says she "picked" Brand because of how his intelligence made her look, saying “I think you’re a genius and you make me look good, and that’s why I picked you.”
The camera remains on after their chat ends, and Perry stages a fake tantrum while Brand playfully tells her off for pretending to break their possessions.
"I control the pu**y," she jokes to someone off-camera.
Later in the film Brand reveals his unique philosophy on human connections, stating, “I cut people out of my life if I think things aren't functioning," over footage of the 39-year-old visiting his grandmother's gravesite with his father.
"And I think, 'What am I making this effort for?'"
Brand failed to attend the debut screening of ‘BRAND: A Second Coming’ announcing on Friday that he was “very uncomfortable” watching the film.
Not as uncomfortable as Perry we bet!
