Kylie Jenner’s lips were one of the biggest topics of conversation in 2015.
And while she initially claimed she achieved that big, soft, plump look with lipliner, she eventually admitted that lip injections were behind her changing appearance.
To be exact, she gets Juvederm injections in her lips.
This is not a decision to be made lightly, and now a plastic surgeon has spoken out about the realities of getting lip injections. There are many drawbacks and risks involved, and it’s definitely not as easy and breezy as celebs like Kylie make it seem!
Dr Richard Swift told HollywoodLife, “Most patients that I see want a more natural look for their lips. Kylie‘s look is a bit extreme, however, being a young celebrity, she’s able to pull it off quite well.”
Although Dr Swift has not treated Kylie, these are his tips for anyone seeking this treatment. And while we're not encouraging anyone to run out and do this, what he has to say is very interesting.
Seek Out A Professional
“Make sure you see a board-certified, licensed and trained aesthetic plastic surgeon in order to obtain the most natural–looking results. They know the anatomy of the face and what beautiful, natural lips entail. In the end, you will not only have bigger lips, but they will contour them while preserving the natural Cupid ’s bow.”
Photos Are A Must
“Bring a picture or photo to your doctor to show them what type of lips you want. An aesthetic board certified plastic surgeon will be able to tell you whether or not they will be able to help create the look you want.”
"Results are immediate but don’t expect to go to a big event that evening or the next day. The lips are sensitive and you may experience some bruising, tenderness or swelling for a few days."
It Won’t Last Forever
"Lip fillers are not permanent. They typically last around 3-6 months, however, Juvederm Ulra Plus XC is the only one clinically proven to last up to one year."
Skip The Painkillers
"Don’t take aspirin or ibuprofen approximately a week prior to your appointment, because this will increase the risk of bruising.”
Dr Swift explained that there are different types of fillers available, but it’s best to seek professional advice before choosing.
“Only a licensed and trained plastic surgeon can analyse your face and tell you the best treatment option for you. Patients don’t realise that there is an art to administering fillers in order to obtain the most natural looking results,” he said.
The different types of fillers last for varying amounts of time, and if you don’t like it you can reverse it. This is very important to know!
“Most hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane and Juvederm last up to 4-6 months, depending on where they are injected. These fillers are used to treat nasolabial folds and the lines around the nose and mouth. Juvederm Voluma XC was specifically developed for the cheek area and lasts up to two years,” Dr Swift explained.
“The good news about hyaluronic acid fillers is that they are not permanent and if you do not like the results the doctor can inject the enzyme, hyaluronidase, to dissolve.”
If you’re not interested in this sort of long lasting change, maybe stick to Kylie’s new line of lip products, Lip Kit by Kylie. Or go natural! Clear lip balm for everyone!
Whatever you choose to do to your lips, remember you are beautiful.
