The Fat Duck Ballot Scam
Scalpers Gain Access To Booking System
If you’re a lover of food, you would have known all about Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck restaurant heading to Melbourne for a short time only.
Reservations are hotly contested, and a ballot system was set up to ensure everyone had a fair chance of getting a place.
But it seems that a trio of financial professionals hired an IT Expert based somewhere in Asia, to scam the booking system, to make over 100 reservations, GoodFood.com.au reports.
The bookings, are now being sold on to the trio’s clients and colleagues.
Dinner at this Michelin Star restaurant start at $525 for a 15 course meal, but some people have been trying to score their seat for upwards of $1000.
The loophole was that the scammer was able to make multiple bookings under different names, because the IP addresses weren’t recorded. A common flaw used in internet based scams.
