WhatsApp Might Not Be As Private As You Think
If you’ve got WhatsApp installed on your phone, there’s something you should know.
A new study carried out by researchers from Brno University of Technology has found that the messaging service collects your phone number and details on the calls you make. This information is apparently stored on WhatsApp’s computers.
Theoretically, this puts us all at risk from hacker attacks.
Researchers say it’s not easy to hack into WhatsApp’s computers, but they managed to do so using a tool which decrypted communications between an Android phone and WhatsApp’s servers.
“Our research demonstrates the type of data that can be gathered through the forensic study of WhatsApp and provides a path for others to conduct additional studies into the network forensics of messaging apps.”
This study is among the first to peek ‘under the bonnet’ of messaging services such as WhatsApp, so there is clearly a lot more to learn.
