Sticky Situation
A photo has just surfaced of model/WAG Lara Bingle naked taking a shower. The pic, which shows a nude Lara covering her breasts is rumoured to have come from the phone of Brendan Fevola, the married AFL sports star Lara had an affair with more than 3 years ago, a long time before she and Aussie cricketer Michael Clarke got together. Woman's Day has published the pic along with images of Michael and Lara in an argument at the SCG last week. Lara is taking legal action against Big Fev for breach of privacy, defamation and misuse of her image.
Poor Lara what a sticky situation to be in! Brendan Fevola has just dug himself a deeper hole as far as I'm concerned. He just loves to prove himself the loser on a regular basis.
Well I have cooked up something just as spicy as the photo of Lara and every bit as sticky as her situation. This fig jam makes the ultimate toast topping or you could serve it with a good vintage cheddar and biccies.
Spiced Fig Jam | Makes about 4 cups
Ingredients
1.5 kg ripe figs, trimmed, roughly chopped into about 8 pieces each
750g caster sugar
1 ½ tsp vanilla concentrate
2 cinnamon quills
1 star anise
Pared rind and juice of 1 ½ lemons
Method
Place ingredients in a heavy based saucepan over low heat and stir to dissolve sugar. Bring to the boil, then cook over very low heat, stirring regularly, for 1 ½ hours or until thick and sticky. Mash figs gently with a fork or masher to break up a little. Remove quill, star anise and rind, then cool slightly, and seal in sterilised jars. Store for up to 3 months. (In our hot environment keeping them refrigerated is best)
To sterilise jars wash them in hot soapy water, rinse and stand upside down on a clean tea towel to drain. Place the clean jars into a large pot of boiling water for ten minutes then place them on a baking tray and into an oven at 150C until dry.
