I Love You Too

Starring Peter Hellier, Peter Dinklage, Megan Gale

Jim (Brendan Cowell) is a thirty something miniature train driver with a gorgeous English girlfriend, and a serious issue with intimacy. When his girlfriend Alice gets feed up with his inability to say four little, but particularly important words, she calls off their three year relationship.

He gets plenty of misguided advice from his boofhead mate Blake (Peter Helliar). However, his savior comes in the form of vertically challenged, grieving photographer Charlie. Charlie quite rightly points to the fact that Jim is not much of a boyfriend, and so goes the story of how he is going to get her back.

‘I Love You Too’ is written by Melbourne comedian Peter Helliar, who also stars as Jim’s mate Blake, a man you will either love or hate. Blake is the sort of character that would not look out of place in a Judd Apatow (The Forty Year Old Virgin) film.

The real stars of the show however are the internationally tinged stars. American Peter Dinklage (from ‘Death at a Funeral’) is superb as Charlie, offering a really sincere and very funny performance. Australian born actress Yvonne Strahovski has spent most of her acting career in the United States (as a major star on US television show ‘Chuck’). In her first major Australian film she is perfect as the beautiful and intelligent Alice.

‘I Love You Too’ is a unique Australian film, a comedy that doesn’t play on our embarrassing quirkiness to get laughs.

During a year where we have been subjected to some pretty average Hollywood rom coms it is nice to part with some cash for a very worthy local version.

Four out of Five Stars.

You must be deluded Matt! How can you enjoy a film where the 2 leads are moronic losers ( apologies to "Dumb and Dumber"). It is miscast, not funny, not charming and not relatable. Alice should have got on that plane.
