The A Team

The A Team
Starring Bradley Cooper, Sharlto Copley, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Liam Neeson and Jessica Biel.
After a team of experienced military men are set up by corrupt government officials, they set out to clear their names. Sound familiar? The A Team has been pipped at the post by the two week old ‘The Losers’ for the ‘mercenaries on the run, out to clear their name’ genre.
Fortunately for this latest installment its origins lie in the 1980’s television series of the same name. Iraq has replaced Vietnam as the teams initial training ground, but the film is otherwise pretty a pretty good adaptation of what was a super silly, but still highly enjoyable television show.
Like the television series, the big screen version is good, clean, wholesome stupidity, of the best possible kind. Advances in technology have meant the action scenes have evolved to bombastic proportions, filmed at break neck speed. However, if you are the type of cinema goer that likes to describe out loud how ludicrous and improbable action scenes are, you would be best to do everyone a favour and wait for ‘The A Team’ on DVD. The film offers up some of the most ridiculous actions scenes of the modern era, but it is all part of the fun.
To deliver the good times, and some equally ludicrous one-liners are Liam Neeson as team strategist Hannibal Smith, Bradley Copper as super smooth Templeton "Faceman" Peck and Sharlto Copley (last seen playing man/alien in District 9) as the hilarious helicopter pilot Murdock. The toughest shoes to fill were always going to be those of B.A Baracus (previously played by Mr T). Mixed martial artist Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has the physical presence to play the hard man but delivers his lines with little more than a mumble.
‘The A Team’ is not without its faults, it is too long and even the most forgiving action fan may get a little sceptical of some of the action scenes. However, those that want good, easy fun or a little nostalgic blast from the past ‘The A Team’ is not a bad option.
