2010 St Jerome's Laneway Festival Posted by Dave 23 October, 2009 - 11:48 AM

Review - Laneway Festival, Sydney

Set amongst historic sandstone buildings, in spacious grounds on the edge of the harbour, how could this indie festival be anything but chilled?

The hipster music fans were slow to party with smaller acts like The Middle East and The XX (above pic) cruising at their own pace. However when the bigger acts hit the stages the entertainment began to match the high ticket price.

Daniel Johnston proved why he was Kurt Cobain's favourite singer bringing his unique sound to Australia for the first time, while British 80's legends Echo & The Bunnymen took fans on a trip down memory lane.

Sarah Blasko joined Sydney locals Dappled Cities on stage and didn't seem to mind that the guys were covered from the neck down in skintight solid gold outfits! Eddy Current Suppression Ring (now that's a band name!) brought the moshpit back in fashion, while N.A.S.A. ended the night with their groovy dance tunes.

Highlight

The super-chilled crowd who were here to simply enjoy the music.

Lowlight

No maps meant it was a bit confusing to find who was playing when and where.

Wow! Pretty cool festival. A friend of mine went last year in Sydney and said it was pretty cruisey.

The XX and NASA were the highlights for me.

The decision to pass up on Florence and the Machine somewhat paid off when aliens took to the stage during NASA's set. It really happened.

I met Dave from f2dayfm at Laneways and enjoyed chatting about the festival, which was really terrific because it was so well organised. Directions might have been better but I managed to find everything I wanted.
Being a local who loves the place I would like to thank everyone who
attended for being so respectful to the university campus and the park. I hope now having found this harbourside heaven you will love it as much as we do. i'm glad we managed to get the last day of sunshine before the deluge.
