Should Raunchy Music Videos Be Banned?
Music 27 June, 2008 - 2:28 PM
Skimpy outfits, stripper moves and suggestive lyrics have become a common feature of today's music videos, but that may be set to change with the release of a Senate inquiry this week.
The report into the increasing sexualisation of children in the media by the Senate's environment, communications and arts Committee has suggested raunchy video clips may need to be reclassified and/or even banned from weekend morning television.
One group in the spotlight for their overtly sexual videos is the Pussycat Dolls (pictured) who began their careers as a Las Vegas burlesque troupe before switching to pop. Their new single is ironically titled 'When I Grow Up' and features the chorus "When I grow up/I wanna see the world/Drive nice cars/ I wanna have groupies."
Going too far? See the risque pics from their new video 'When I Grow Up'
What do you think - are artists like PCD and Britney Spears taking it too far? And what impact is this having on our children?

I think they're going way too far these days. The girls in the videos just act like cheap strippers...
There's no art, no class, just lots of ugly skin.

As a mother of two, I'm constantly bewildered by music videos.
Popstars used to inspire and be fun, now they're teaching my young girls how to poledance! What hope have we got?

Parents have a simply way of controlling this - turn off the TV or change the channel.
They have to start taking responsibility rather than blaming everyone else!

It's totally unacceptable. Kids are the ones who watch music videos on Saturday mornings, and this is what they are seeing every week! What kind of message is this sending? Imagine if this was your daughter or little sister, growing up watching this every week. What do you think she's going to turn out like? Kids copy what they see.

That's total BS, i'm an average popular teenage girl and I certainly don't copy what I see!!
I do know the line between normal and slutty!!

but the kids out there are influenced by what they see on tv.. no matter whether they take it on board or not. Record labels need to know that albums can sell without the explicit sex scenes or sex promotions!

It seems artists are getting more and more desperate to sell albums, so they take off more clothes.
Sadly, people quickly lose all respect for them. Whats the deal with the Pussycats anyways? Do any of them besides Nicole actually do anything?

Hell if you've got it flaunt it. If you don;t like it, turn it off. Easy as.

Any parent can only do so much to guide their children in the right direction but ALL media plays a huge role in all our lives and it's nothing but cool people selling 'SEX' and all the boring (gov.) people are selling 'DON'T', so what do you think a child would choose? Or think about what you would have chosen when you were young but faced with the surroundings that our youth have today!
