Summer 2008's Hottest Festival Gig Guide
Music 2 December, 2008 - 3:33 PM
Not sure how to spend your summer? Check out our definitive summer festival guide for all the latest gigs in your capital cities.
Big Day Out
Since 1991 it's been a staple on the summer festival circuit and 2009 won't disappoint! A killer line up including a lesson on how its done by old school rocker Neil Young (90 minute set), The Prodigy, Brit faves The Arctic Monkeys, and home grown acts The Living End and Pendulum, it's easy to see why BDO has such a dedicated following. Check out the smaller stages for new up and coming bands, get sweaty in the boiler room or simply relax and enjoy the crazy antics of your fellow man.
Tip: Don't forget to pack sunscreen and a hat... it's always so damn hot!
Where: Auckland NZ (Jan 16th), Gold Coast (Jan 18th), Sydney (Jan 23rd), Melbourne (Jan 26th), Perth (Feb 1st), Adelaide (Jan 30th)

Good Vibrations
Fatboy Slim, The Presets, The Roots and Sam Sparro... need we say more? Whether you're into Hip Hop, Dance, Techno or even Jungle, dust off those dancing shoes, Good Vibrations is going to be huge!
Tip: Funky threads and trilby a must. Fluro optional.
Where: Sydney (Feb 14th), Melbourne (Feb 15th), Gold Coast (Feb 21st), Perth (Feb 22nd)

Homebake
If you haven't been before, let 2008 pop your Homebake cherry. Not only are you in the beautiful surrounds of Sydney's Royal Botanic Gardens but you're listening to the sounds of your country! This year's diamond lineup includes Crowded House, our favorites Sneaky Sound System, Cut Copy, ARIA award-winning Gabriella Climi as well as indie rockers Sparkadia, British India, hip hop act Bliss N Eso, the list goes on. We are (musically) the lucky country, so let's enjoy some "Peace in the Park
Tip: Do marvel at the fact that Australia boasts some of the most talented acts on earth.
When: Saturday December 6th, 2008
Where: Domain, Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney

St Jerome's Laneway Festival
Fusing music, art, fashion and the street it began humbly in the laneways of Melbourne in 2004, with the rest of the country let in on the secret 2 years later. Renowned for its eclectic mix of local and international acts, from Pittsburgh's pop mash up king Girl Talk to Blue Mountains hip hop duo Hermitude, there really is something here for every taste. This is the uber cool indie street party on the summer festival calendar. Got your ticket yet?
Tip: Absolutely no props given for fluro. Don't do it.
When: Jan 31 - Feb 08, 2009
Where: Brisbane (Jan 31st), Melbourne (Feb 1st), Perth (Feb 6th), Adelaide (Feb 7th), Sydney (Feb 8th)
More info: lanewayfestival.com.au
Nevereverland
There is no Peter Pan here, but boy we would love time to stand still! In Nevereverland's 2nd year the lineup is so good it's scary. To help celebrate Modular Records' 10th Birthday The Presets, The Klaxons, Cut Copy, and Ladyhawke lead the way along with Muscles and AJAX and plenty more. Get your glow sticks out, let's dance!
Tip: Don't lose your mates; searching through thousands of people doing "the sprinkler" can be dangerous!
Where: Sydney (Dec 13th), Melbourne (Dec 14th), Brisbane (Dec 20), Perth (Dec 21st)
