Singer Ashlee Simpson has just announced she is "happily engaged" to Fallout Boy rocker Pete Wentz.

Posting a newsflash on the Friends or Enemies website, the sister of actress/singer Jessica wrote:

"We know there has been a lot of speculation recently about Pete and I and we wanted our fans to be the first to know, because you guys are the best. Yes, we are thrilled to share that we are happily engaged. Thank you for all of your support and well wishes - it means the world to us. We consider this to be a very private matter, but we wanted you to hear it straight from us."

It's reported Wentz, bassist for emo rock act Fallout Boy, asked the big question while recently on holiday in Colorado. They've been together since late 2006, despite initially denying their relationship. As time went on, they became more public with Wentz telling In Touch magazine last year that "I have never met somebody who makes me feel the way she makes me feel" (obviously quote the Michael Jackson song there)

Of course, it's all fabulous publicity for Simpson's forthcoming album Bittersweet World, which features the single 'Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)', released here on April 22.
