With yet another music event bearing down on us this weekend with the MTV Awards, we spoke to a tried-and-true veteran, Lisa from The Veronicas.

On her way to her dress fitting for the first night, she shared her tips on surviving the ceremony and ruling the red carpet.

Dress to Kill
At last year's MTV Awards, the Brisbane twins turned heads on the red carpet, making guys giddy with matching revealing black dresses that left little to the imagination.

Says Lisa: "We just dress in what we feel comfortable in. We weren't going deliberately for the low-cut look, it was just the style of the dresses and we felt comfortable in that. And why not - we're 22-year-old girls and having fun with fashion is all part of it.

"For these Awards, we're going through a few different looks and designs, but it's a surprise so I'm not telling (laughs). I have something in mind that we've both quite into. We like to do something different for the red carpet."

Surviving the Boring Awards Bit
"Try to get a nomination or on the bill to perform on the night. These things can drag on quite a bit, but luckily this time we're up for all of them - we're nominated, performing and presenting!

Say Cheese and Strike a Pose
"Jess and I tend to have our favourite side these days and we've got our back to back move. You can't be too creative pose-wise - you just do what's the most flattering for you I guess. We don't get too crazy and jump up and down - we don't want any up the skirt shots! Try to keep it classy.

Mingling Backstage with the Stars
"Everyone's pretty cool and friendly hanging out in the green room. No one's been rude to us - it's all pretty chilled out. If someone's a bit snobby, the rest just stay away from. We just do our own thing with people that are rad."

The After-Party
"Everyone's got their own limits when it comes to partying. Each to their own is my motto. Obviously you don't want to go too crazy but if you do, you have to deal with the consequences and the hangover the next day."

"We just have fun and we've got each other to look out for each other. Who parties the most? We're as crazy as each other. Identical twins - that's just the way it is!"
