Controversial UK pop star Lily Allen has caused a massive stir in her home country by seeming to advocate the use of drugs. In a recent interview the singer claimed that the dangers of drug use are highly exaggerated.

The singer said: "The only story is that drugs are bad and they will kill you - you will become a prostitute, a rapist or a dealer," she said. "But that's not true. I know lots of people that take cocaine three nights a week and get up and go to work everyday, no problem at all. But we never hear that side of the story. I have no statement to make, I just wish people wouldn't sensationalise this thing that just exists."

In response to the storm of criticism after her comment s Lily's peeps released a statement saying:

'During an interview with The Word magazine, Lily Allen was asked about the lyrics of a song on her album called Everyone's At It. The song's subject matter concerns drug use.'

'At no point does she say that drugs are a good thing or that she condones drug use; in fact she says that "I can spot the signs (of people on drugs) and it terrifies me". The song itself talks about a culture of both legally prescribed drugs like anti-depressants and also illegal drug use.

'Lily Allen would like to state unequivocally that she does not condone illegal drug use and has every sympathy with individuals and families whose lives have been blighted by drugs.'

Has Lily gone too far this time?

  Leave Lily alone. She's only saying the truth - that lots of people take drugs and are upstanding members of society.

  Basically the truth is that people take drugs every weekend - sure it's not good for you, but who wants to live forever? And if you do want to live forever guess what... YOU CAN"T!

  Enjoy your life and if you're gonna take stuff make sure you know who you get it from.

  You wouldn't have bad dealers if drugs were legal. You would get them from the STORE just as you do cigarettes or alcohol.

  Lily is actually right in what she says. It's a lifestyle choice, not a crime. Responsible adults can lead normal lives and still use drugs for recreation safely.

  how really, by saying something that is agaisnt the status quo? The war on drugs is starting to resemble a nazi style situation. If anyone speaks out about it they are shot down and can lose their jobs!

  While the police hunt down and jail innocent people who like to use other drugs other than alcohol.

  I, and a lot of people i know have taken drugs. we do not deserve to be sent to jail for years.

  i dont like lily allen, but i thinks its great she spoke out about it.

  I haven't heard the song but one of the best things about Lily's lyrics is that she's REAL. Her songs talk about her real experiences, real people and what life is really like where she's from in the UK. From what I hear, drug use is much more prolific over there. With the clubbers it is apparently pretty much the norm for people to use every weekend cos it's comparatively much cheaper than drinking!
  I don't use drugs myself, but don't persecute Lily for talking about what's really going on in the world, just because you may not like it!

  Okay i see at some point where she is comin from... You can't stop everyone from using drugs, But think about it you cant have a adult taking drugs, what is that going to show a young teenager... HELLO teenagers and kids look up to adults to see right and wrong.. if we go round saying its okay that Responsible adults take drugs thats Stupid!!..
