Ricky Martin has admitted to being a 'fortunate homosexual man'. 

The 90s heart throb said that writing his autobiography helped to free himself from things he was carrying inside for a long time.

He decided to finally be open because of his twin boys, writing:

“To keep living as I did up until today would be to indirectly diminish the glow that my kids were born with. Enough is enough. This has to change. This was not supposed to happen 5 or 10 years ago, it is supposed to happen now. Today is my day, this is my time, and this is my moment.”

  It's not fair of you guys to ask the question "should he have told the truth years ago?"

  He was in the spotlight and working in an industry where a lot of artists get shunned for being forthright about their sexuality.

  He needed to come out when he felt MOST comfortable about it with himself. It's not something that you want to come out and say "Hey! I'm gay". It's scary and daunting.

  Don't forget, being straight is the norm, and people like normality. Being gay (like myself), it is considered un-natural, and there is a LOT of hate out there.

  Good on him for coming out.

  I agree with 'Kris' posting - disclosure of personal issues such as sexuality is a personal and ( should be a ) private matter - how many people ever asked Sir Elton (John) or some other prominent show-biz person or other individual in the 'spotlight' - when are you going to 'come out' as a heterosexual man ?

  Of course, that IS part of the work of journalism, good on Ricky for waiting until ready - it is (almost always) a 'one-way' journey anyway - we need greater compassion, all of us !
