She's making her film debut for Battleship… could Rihanna also be gunning for a career in cinema?

A new trailer for the flick was released over the weekend (yes it's loosely based on the legendary board game) and it's got a Transformers look and feel about it. Alright, it screams Transformers.

We see glimpses of Rihanna serving as an officer aboard a US battleship as her crew take part in naval exercises in the Pacific.

Things get real when the navy disturb an unknown object that emerges from the ocean - alien spacecraft. The extraterrestrials are far from friendly and we see RiRi swing into action, manning a speedboat and one massive cannon. Bang!

Battleship also stars Liam Neeson and Alexander Skarsgård and should Australian cinemas in April 2012.
