Clown hysteria has shut down a Victorian high school this afternoon.

Police confirmed to the Herald Sun Colac’s Trinity College received phone calls around 11.30am warning clowns were going to gate crash the school.

As a precaution, the school went into lockdown for about 45 minutes with principal Tim O’Farrell saying he had made the decision in the “interest of student safety”.

Essendon’s St Columba’s college went into lockdown on Tuesday following reports of a masked person sitting in a car.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said that incident was not clown-related.

Police investigated the threats but said they did not find any clowns on the premises.

It’s believed the phone calls were a prank.
