Teenagers Shoot Dead Melbourne Baseball Player Christopher Lane
"They were on a killing spree".
Tragedy has struck in Oklahoma with news that a young man originally form Melbourne has been killed in a drive-by shooting.
22 year old Christopher Lane was killed on Saturday morning when three young men drove past and shot him. One of the killers chillingly admitted that the only reason they did it was because they just wanted to kill someone.
The perpetrators, who are in custody are aged just 15, 16 and 17 years old.
"Three juveniles have been arrested and are being taken to Stephens County Jail and booked on a complaint of First Degree Murder in the shooting death of Chris Lane"," reported the local paper The Duncan Banner.
Lane was simply going out for a run and was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"According to police it was just a completely random drive-by shooting," his Dad Peter Lane told The Herald Sun.
"I think they were on a killing spree", the town police chief Danny Ford said.
Lane was in America on a sports scholarship. He had played with Essendon Baseball Club in Melbourne, and the club's match on Sunday will be held in his memory.
