Terminally Ill Brittany Maynard Has Ended Her Life
Controversial “right-to-die” advocate Brittany Maynard has reportedly ended her own life.
People magazine has reported that the 29-year-old terminal brain cancer sufferer ended her life on Saturday at her home in Portland, Oregon, releasing the following statement.
“Goodbye to all my dear friends and family that I love. Today is the day I have chosen to pass away with dignity in the face of my terminal illness, this terrible brain cancer that has taken so much from me … but would have taken so much more,” Brittany wrote on Facebook.
“The world is a beautiful place, travel has been my greatest teacher, my close friends and folks are the greatest givers. I even have a ring of support around my bed as I type … Goodbye world. Spread good energy. Pay it forward!”
Brittany’s sister Erica Holmes-Kremitzki posted on Facebook that the family was saying goodbye to her and then posted this message:
“She will live on in our hearts and I will continue to share her message, just as I promised her I would. Fly with the angels, Brittany. I know you’ll watch over us all.”
Last week Brittany released a video saying that she had changed her "dying date" of November 1 so she could spend more time with loved ones. But she said she would assess her health and her decision to die as time went on.
Holmes-Kremitzki also posted that Brittany was not set on dying on November 1, “but as her condition worsened and the tumor took over control, it became increasingly more difficult for her to function. One comfort is that she was able to make the choice to end her suffering before she was unable to function at all. That’s what SHE wanted.”
