VIDEO: Sydney School Bully Victim Fights Back Posted by Zoe 16 March, 2011 - 8:23 AM

Kid being bullied

A video of a Sydney bullying victim fighting back has gone viral, watch below.

A 16 year old was at the receiving end of bullying day-in-day-out, and the video shows the moment when he finally snapped.

As a result of the incident, both boys were suspended.

There are now fan sites supporting the boy who stood up to the bully.

We spoke exclusively to the victim's family who gave the following insight.

o    He has a heart of gold, always looking out for younger kids and is quick to take the brunt of any violence if it means one of his friends don't cop it. He is a loyal boy with very few friends, and although he tries at school he is quite a loner.

o    He has been bullied for all of his high school life, over 3 years of taking the abuse. He is part way through Year 10 now and it has been consistent since he began Year 7.

o    Right now he’s overwhelmed with all the coverage he has received, physically he is OK, mentally/ emotionally he has suffered but still has a smile.

o    His family have shown so much support they refuse to allow any media to have contact with him in order to protect him. His friends, regardless of their age, have pat him on the back for standing up for himself - although we don't condone violence we knew that enough was enough this time!

Watch the video here and tell us what you think? Have you been bullied? Let u know your story.

I think that the kid that was being bullied for 3 years was right to stand up to his bully. he is probley one of many people I have seen to stand up to their bully. He is a brave kid and should be prasied even though he didn't win.

It was not the greatest result to see another person get hurt, but I suppose sometimes it happens and all we can do is learn from the incident. Personally I was bullying since primary school and at the age of 44yrs my boss gave me a letter saying "I was nothing". At the time I had dedicated my life to Taekwondo for 27yrs and teh comments inspired me to open my own organisation "United Taekwondo" some 5yrs ago. Now I have 25 centre and over 800 members taht now train extremely hard in an enviroment where bullying is not excepted or tolerated. It has been the best change in my life and I would like to thank all the instructors, students and parents that have supported me and given me a new outlook on life. Also I married a beautful women who only gives me support. I now run anti-bullying classes in public school and convert a bullying into a leader. All the best Paul

I was bullied for years. Striking back was the only answer, but if you're a gentle kid you won't know how to fight. You are scared to throw the first punch because they will take that as an excuse to really lay into you. Secret to handling bullies is quite simply to beat the crap out of them and not to stop, and when they run away chase them. Don't stop until they can't walk and are scared of you. If their friends come after you, beat the crap out of them too. Martial arts can help, but make sure it is a practice one and not a show and dance one. But no kid should have to fight for their life. Get your parents to take you to the Police and insist on pressing charges. Make sure your parents aren't talked out of it. The goal is to make the bullies life a living misery. Only when that happens will they back off. I admire the victim in the video. No way that bully will dare touch him again, and that ankle will be a good reminder of what happens when you push good people too far. Kudos to the victim You're a hero to many!

The big lad used reasonable force to defend himself from being assaulted. In any court in the civilised Western world he would have been acquitted, in fact, it probably wouldn't get as far as court other than to convict the bully for assault. Yet schools deem it appropriate to compound the situation by imposing their own strange version of justice by suspending the victim. Schools are the cause of this type of violence, Head Teachers have no clue how to analyse evidence or dispense justice.

I'm 15 and last week finally stood up to the girl who had been harrassing me for months. I kept it to myself and was just letting it get worse but when some of my friends found me upset and heard the messages I had been left on my phone encouraged me to do something about it, I told the girl how pathetic she has been acting and that if she did it again then I would inform the school and so far so good :) this guy did the right thing if you don't stand up to them then they just walk all over you

I think that kid who had been bullied will become a great Man. He could have killed that little punk when he was down but stopped when it was over. The school should present him with a medal of commendation in front of the entire school, or the Mayor of their city should, and we should set up a donation fund through PayPal to help him cover college tuition. The little punk, on the other hand, should never be allowed back on school property.

At first I thought it was the big kid bullying, but then after watching the video, I realized it was the little guy. I wish the administration and teachers would pay closer attention to these goings on. I'm sure they knew this boy was taking alot of abuse from others and just figured they could leave it alone because he was a big guy, but all hearts hurt the same. Pay attention!
