Dead Dog Tragedy

A dog has been killed after it was set on fire in Sydney's west yesterday. The terrier cross was only 2 years old and was extremely traumatised. The burns were so bad the dog had to be put down.
24 hours earlier a dog was found dead hanging from a tree in Mt Druitt.
The maximum penalty for serious animal cruelty is 5 years in jail. Is this punishment tough enough for these crimes? Tell us what you think.

It makes me sick. These people should have the same treatment thrown their way. stuff jail, set them on fire and see how it feels to be helpless.

5 years is NOT long enough! There needs to be a tougher penalty this is discusting! Humans stand some chane of surving something so horrific! But ANIMALS! especially dogs! They don't stand a chance at all! This is so disgusting! These dogs are helpless, and more needs to be done to help these poor animals! This incident brought me to tears!

Absolutely sickening! If they can do that to an animal imagine what they would be prepared to do to another human being. We need to look after the planet, look after each other and look after all living things - maybe such appalling acts would be lessened.

the punishment should reflect the crime. 5yrs for a life is a joke. how is a dog supposed to defend itself? this is very dissapointing to hear of this sort of thing.

what a joke 5 years! it should be the same punishment for all animals and humans, if this happened to a human the punishment would be life..... we all feel the same pain, so the punishment should be equal. Its been proven that people who abuse animals go on to abuse humans so they should be locked up for life, do you really want these kinds of people in your community? what's wrong with the world?

This can only be performed by truly sick individuals. There is no greater atrocity than inflicting harm to any animal or person that is unable to defend themselves. 5 YEARS IS NO WHERE NEAR HARSH ENOUGH.
