The Gist:
This diet looks back into the stone ages and believes that the human body is at its healthiest and will achieve weight loss when consuming foods that were around since the beginning of time, like meat, fruit and vegetables. The philosophy behind the Zone Diet is based on scientific research that demonstrates we work best when living on only two types of food groups; lean protein and natural carbs. It’s based on one main rule: each meal should consist of 40% carbs, 30% fat, and 30% protein.
The diet states that each meal can be measured using your hand as a gauge. Protein servings can only be as big as your palm, and carbohydrate servings can be slightly bigger to the size of your fist. Fats are to be added in sparingly; for instance a bunch of nuts or olives.
A few other guidelines include; you must eat 5 times a day, meaning 3 meals and two snacks, and drink 8 glasses of water. Meals must not exceed 500calories, and snacks must be under 100cal. And NO processed, artificial food; so if it hasn’t come from Mother Nature it’s forbidden.
Does it work?
A diet that is based on fresh vegetables, fruits and nuts, and healthy proteins; must be good for you! It’s a healthy, safe, and well balanced diet. Go for gold with this one, but remember to always include an exercise plan into your weight loss program as well.

I'm not sure I believe the human body was it healthiest during the stone age. Didn't they all die before reaching 30?

Exercise always seems to be the big disclaimer with these things. You eat 10 mars bars a day, but as long as you run 20 miles you'll be right. All in moderation people.
