Beauty Road Test

Permanent Fake Eyelashes? Posted by Camilla 30 June, 2009 - 12:52 PM

Camilla before and after her lash graft.

Penelope Cruz says the lashes she sports in the Revlon commercials are all her. Well I want what she’s having! Lash gate aside, I’m searching for something to satisfy my “1000 calorie” craving with out all that fussing with glues and fiddly lashes.

The solution: “lash graft”. Beauty therapists (like Outshine where I had her treatment done) actually adhere single silk fibre lashes to your existing lashes which can last up to 8 weeks!

See the up close and personal photos of Camilla getting her eyelash makeover.

First the therapist will take off any eye makeup and tape down your bottom lashes. This is quite uncomfortable but necessary to prevent your top lashes being glued to you bottom lashes. The fibres vary in length, but can be as long as 12mm to add length and shorter fibres are used for fullness. This really allows for a unique look, tailor made to suit your eye.

The procedure takes about and hour and costs about $120 depending on the salon you go to. You can choose to book a more time with your therapist if you want a thicker look. Its painless except for the removal of the tape which can be a little tricky. Get ready with the cucumber slices!

A great lash treatment for the busy socialite! Or for brides who can’t seem to hold back the tears.

And the result? I have beautiful long curly lashes and they look home grown!  I don’t feel I have to wear mascara everyday. I was expecting them to look a little fuller though. To get the Hollywood lash effect you may opt for “party lashes”. They give a fuller effect but will only last up to a week. They cost around $30.

My treatment was performed by the team from Outshine in Brisbane, however, lash graft treatments are available at leading salons all over Australia.

Ouch! Looks great though. A small amount of pain for great lashes is definitely worth it.

I've had the party lashes put on before but never considered having them permanently put on. Will be sure to ask about this next time.

Wow. Did it really not hurt? This is a great way for other women to have fuller and longer lashes. But for those who are not as courageous as you, might have to stick with false lashes.
